Akal Takhat forms a new committee to handle Sikh issues during a tour in the USA

Jathedar Akal Takhat informed the Sikh community in New York, Atlanta, and California that Akal Takhat Sahib has formed a seven-member committee to handle all Sikh issues in the USA. Bhai Sahib Satpal Singh Khalsa was appointed to be the convener of this committee.

Jathedar of Akal Takhat Sahib – Singh Sahib Giani Gurbachan Singh Ji, Jathedar of Patna Sahib (far left) – Singh Sahib Giani Iqbal Singh Ji and Head Granthi of Gurdwara Bangla Sahib – Delhi (2nd to right), Singh Sahib Giani Ranjit Singh Ji (far right) and hosted by Bhai Sahib Satpal Singh (2nd to left), began their trip by participating in the Nagar Kirtan organized by the Sikh Cultural Society (Richmond Hill, NY) in celebration of the first Prakash Gurpurab of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji which falls on September 1st. Historically, Baba Buddha was appointed the first Head Granthi in conjunction of the first installation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji at Harmandir Sahib – Amritsar on September 1st, 1604.

The three esteemed Sikh leaders and their hosts, Bhai Sahib Satpal Singh, Sant Baba Balwinder Singh Ji and Dr. Inderpal Singh (in Atlanta) continued their trip with these scheduled events:

  • August 24 – 27, 2013 (New York) – Visited all major Gurdwaras in New York and were welcomed into the homes of various Sikh community members.
  • August 28, 2013 (Atlanta) – Attended Gurdwara Sadh Sangat of Atlanta hosted by Dr. Inderpal Singh. Participated in the Atlanta Nishan Sahib ceremony and special Gurdwara in celebration of the First Prakash Gurpurab of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Visited homes of several Sikh community members.
  • August 29, 2013 (Los Angeles) – Visited homes of several Sikh community members in Los Angeles and then attended a special Gurdwara at Guru Ram Das Ashram. MSS Kirtan Singh welcomed the honored guests on behalf of Sikh Dharma International and introduced them to the sangat. All of the guests spoke and shared their messages while Bhai Sahib Satpal Singh translated. Jathedar Akal Takhat said he was “very much inspired by the services of Siri Singh Sahib Bhai Sahib Harbhajan Singh Khalsa Yogiji and wished success to all the members of Sikh Dharma”. He gave a special thanks for the students of Miri Piri Academy
  • August 30 – September 1, 2013 (Yuba City, CA / Northern California) – Visited several Gurdwaras in Yuba City including a special visit with Sant Baba Balwinder Singh (Kurali) at the Gurdwara Nanksar in Delhi, CA. Also visited homes of several members of the Sikh community. Participated in a special three day kirtan program in connection with the First Prakash Gurpurab of Sri Guru Granth Sahib as well as the celebration of the anniversary of Baba Nand Singh Ji of Kaleran, Punjab. Baba Balwinder Singh in Delhi, CA is a disciple Baba Nand Singh and is building a new Gurdwara in Delhi, CA, which will be called Gurdwara Nanaksar. Baba Balwinder Singh was responsible for inviting the Jathedars and Head Granthi to USA.

Bhai Sahib Satpal Singh Khalsa and the esteemed guests were originally scheduled to attend the Birthday Anniversary Party for the Siri Singh Sahib Bhai Sahib Harbhajan Singh Khalsa Yogiji in Espanola, New Mexico, but could not attend due to the full schedule.
